As an apprentice, you get paid a salary while you learn and your employer pays your tuition. Imagine it. While many people struggle with how to pay for a college education, ABC offers an answer: You graduate with a job and debt free. ABC provides training in many trades including electrical, electronic systems technician (EST), sheet metal, plumbing, and pipefitting. many of our graduates have gone on to own their own businesses, helping to build multi-million dollar projects in Southern California.

 

There are few industries that offer you the opportunity to earn while you learn. Welcome to the world of construction!

ABOUT

As an apprentice, you are employed by a company where you receive paid on-the-job training during the day and attend classes in the evening, to learn your trade. You receive college credits while training and your tuition is free. You also receive full medical and dental benefits for you and your family. 

 

While many people struggle with how to pay for a college education, ABC offers an answer: You graduate with life-long job mobility, skills that you can take anywhere, and debt free. ABC provides training in: Electrical, Electronic Systems Technician (EST), Sheet Metal, Plumbing, and Pipefitting. Electrician

Average Annual Wage in CA:
$66,420*

Education Required:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.

Do you enjoy problem solving & working with your hands? 

If so, you should consider a career as an electrician!

  • Design, install, maintain and troubleshoot electrical components and wiring for a variety of systems, from overall power systems and lighting to systems that operate machinery.

  • Utilize logical thinking and math skills to interpret prints and accurately calculate electrical systems.

  • Operate a variety of tools and use the National Electrical Code to comply with safety requirements.

  • Utilize innovative advances such as alternative energy systems, electronic systems technology, and programmable logic controllers.

IMPORTANT: It is a requirement that applicants for the electrical program have passed Algebra with a "C" grade or better.

Electronic Systems Technician

Average Annual Wage in CA:

$66,950

Education Required:
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.

Are you into sound systems and tinkering with wires?

If so, you should think about a career as an Electronic Systems Technician!

  • Install, upgrade, and service a variety of residential and commercial electronic systems including: Audio/Video Systems, Computer Networking, Lighting, Control Systems, Security and Surveillance, Telecom, Cable & Satellite TV, and Green Technologies.

Sheet Metal Worker

Average Annual Wage in CA:

$59,290

Education Required:
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.

Are you a visual person? Do you enjoy mechanics and fitting puzzles together?

  • Cut and mold sheets of metal into components for installing heating, ventilation and air distribution systems.

  • Operate computerized fabrication machines such as plasma cutters, brakes, presses and forming rolls to cut, bend, block and form sheet metal.

  • Solve challenging problems with highly technical layouts, prints and specifications using math and critical thinking.

Plumber

Average Annual Wage in CA:

$59,370

Education Required:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.

Are you always tinkering with objects? Do people ask for your help with fixing mechanical things? If so, you should think about a career in plumbing!

Plumbers do much more than fix sinks and toilets in residential homes. 

  • Design, install and repair piping systems (including those connected to washers, bathtubs, sinks, toilets, and heating and cooling systems) that distribute water and remove waste from buildings.

  • Interpret and understand the Plumbing Code to ensure proper installation and safety.

  • Utilize critical thinking and math skills to interpret prints and troubleshoot in the service of various plumbing systems.

Pipefitter

Average Annual Wage in CA:

$74,310*

Education Required:
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.

Are you a little bit of a perfectionist? Do you enjoy reading plans and making something useful? If so, consider a career as a pipefitter!

  • Plan and install detailed pipe systems for commercial and industrial projects. These pipes may carry water, chemicals or gases to the crucial building systems. 

  • Use many tools to cut and bend pipes to exact specifications.

Project Manager

Average Annual Wage in CA:

Education Required:

Bachelors Degree or Equivalent Work Experience

Do others seek your guidance to complete group assignments or project-based tasks? Transfer these leadership skills to the construction industry through project management.

 

  • Project managers are essential to completing projects on time and on budget.

  • Their duties can include planning, coordinating, budgeting and supervising construction projects from development to completion.

  • Project managers usually spend most of their time on site where they monitor projects and make daily decisions about construction activities.

Superintendent / Foreman

Average Annual Wage in CA:

$62,920-$125,840*

Education Required:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent. On the Job Training, Professional Certification

Do you enjoy enhancing your leadership skills? 

If so, you may have the potential to become a superintendent/foreman...

  • On large construction projects, the superintendent’s job is to run the day-to-day operations on the construction site and control the short-term schedule.

  • The role of the superintendent also includes important quality control and subcontractor coordination responsibilities.

  • A foreman has years of experience in a particular trade who is charged with organizing the overall construction of a particular project for a particular contractor.

Estimator

Average Annual Wage in CA:

$57,026*

Education Required:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent. On the Job Training, Professional Certification

Do you enjoy looking at sports statistics about a player or a team and figuring out how those stats will impact the game? If so, estimating is the perfect job for you...

  • Estimators figure out how much time, money, materials, and labor is needed to build a high-rise, a house, or any type of construction project. 

  • Estimators typically Identify factors affecting costs, such as production time, materials, and labor by reading blueprints or technical documents and meeting with engineers, architects and contractors to prepare estimates.

  • Estimators recommend ways to reduce costs and work with sales teams to prepare estimates and bids for clients.
